Alpine Charms - La Tania Ski chalets and apartments - Three Valleys, France
La Tania is an excellent choice for a ski holiday, either as a relatively inexpensive entrance to the whole of the 3 valleys ski domaine or as a pretty little ski in ski out resort for families, with its pedestrianised centre and slopes finishing in the heart of the village. It also has a lively, friendly, easy going apres ski scene with good bars and restaurants and live music in Le Ski Lodge..
Nestled in the midst of pine forest at 1400m, with superb views down into the Tarentaise valley, La Tania was originally developed as accommodation for 1992 Winter Olympics at Albertville. It is in the centre of the Trois Vallees ski area, between Courcheval and Meribel. A fast 10 person gondola whisks you into a massive ski area which vies with the Portes du Soleil for the title of largest ski area in the world. From the top of the gondola just one more chairlift sees you in either Courchevel 1850 or Meribel. 'La Loze'. The slopes in La Tania are south facing and so hold their snow better than other resorts in the Three Valleys.
The mountain above La Tania, has quieter pistes than elsewhere in the Three Valleys and the 'Dou des Lanches' sector is known for some of the best kept powder around. Ski back into La Tania through the tree-lined roller coaster blue piste and you can either stop very close to your chalet or carry on for 60 seconds to the village centre.
An hourly ski bus running from eary morning until the late evening also links La Tania to sophisticated Courcheval 2 kms away...
Six cafes and a snack bar in the village, and two mountain restaurants ensure that you have plenty of choice of where to eat at lunch and dinner time.
Also in the village are ski hire shops, a tourist office, post office, bakery, newsagent, supermarket, 4 bars , The Magic in motion ski school and ESF are based in La Tania, along with ski garden for children and creche.

Non skiing Activities include snow-shoe walks, paragliding, indoor climbing, ice skating, 10-pin bowling, ice karting, dog-sledding, ski doo riding, snow walks, ice karting and other non-skiing activities. Meribel and Courchevel both have ice rinks and 1850 has 10-pin bowling too. There a luge sledging run at 1550 or a full on Olympic bob sleigh over in La Plagne.
The fitness club in the hotel Montana has massage, sun bed, pool with jet stream, sauna, swimming instruction,
water aerobics on twice a week.
The blue run down to the resort twists through the forest virtually passing the doors of the chalets, whilst the wide red run flatters intermediates and passes through the village centre finishing at the gondola. Snow cannons on the bue run ensure that it remains complete until the end of the season. These pictures of the red run were taken at the end of March 2004. Beginners are well served by a "magic carpet" an separate nursery slopes..
