From Calais: 570 miles - autoroute tolls about £35 each way - these can be paid in cash or by credit card.

On leaving the ferry follow autoroute(A26) signs to Reims, continue towards Troyes, then follow the A5/A31 to Dijon and the A39(via Dole) to Bourge-en- Bresse.  You then join the A40, the 'AutorouteBlanche' towards Chamonix.  Leave the autoroute at Cluses, follow Taninges and then Les Gets.

There is a small but quite good hypermarket in Taninges. It is useful to stop here to fill up with cheap fuel. There is also a good selection of food and wine, although generally the two supermarkets and other specialist shops in Les Gets have a good variety.

Notes:
1. Most operators have apex fares or give substantial discounts for early booking - check as soon as you decide to come.
2. In addition there are usually 'loyalty clubs' which you can join for a small fee, which pay for themselves very quickly.  With Brittany Ferries this is a club for property owners, although you don't have to own property!! The savings are substantial. Armiles give up to 30% off crossings with P&O Stena for 450 miles if you book through them.
3. On the short routes, sailings through the night are usually much cheaper.
On the longer routes, consider travelling overnight with a cabin, alternatively take a day  sailing but book a cabin (usually very cheap on day sailings) and get some rest on the journey over.
