Portes du Soleil
Les Gets is part of the Portes du Soleil which is one of the largest interlinked areas in the world.
The Portes du Soleil straddles the border between France and Switzerland and covers resorts in both countries. For adventurous intermediates and advanced skiers, Les Gets links directly to the Portes du Soleil ski area with 650 kms of pistes and 212 lifts, with high altitude resorts such as Avoriaz giving excellent early and late ski-ing.
The recently introduced 'discovery routes', signpost different round tours, graded according to ability, allowing you to easily explore all the different sectors. The route around the Les Gets area is the easy 'blue hare'. To complete the circuit should take around 21/2 hours allowing you a good half day ski-ing , or if you take extended breaks at the many stategically placed mountain restaurants, an enjoyable and lesuirely day. Alternatively you can book a guided excursion in which you ski the whole circus over one day.
New for 2002/3 - a major upgrade to the lifts in the Les Gets/ Morzine domain greatly improved the system. New lifts in the Les Perriers area in 2003/4
There is also now a discount for groups of 4 booking lift passes at the same time for the same 6 day period. You need to show an accommodation voucher, available from us.
Les Gets - Snow Record
Les Gets has a good snow record, benefitting from being in the snow footprint of Mont Blanc. Its grass based slopes hold the snow well with good 'off-piste' conditions. The village is on the snow linw and so has a better snow record than many higher resorts. Les Gets is situated in a sheltered bowl with ski-ing on the lower slopes on wide pistes through the pine forests. This gives shelter in poor weather. However, as part of the Portes du Soleil (Doors of Sunshine) it shares the mediterranean microclimate enjoyed by Geneva, and as it is not overshadowed by any large mountains, has an above average sunshine record. We have always had both good snow and plenty of sun on our ski-ing trips in Dec/Jan, February and late!! April. ( To see photos taken on April 20th 2001, please click here, although I would not guarantee that snow cover then! ) To check out the snow conditions on the Chavannes click here
Les Gets - Ski areas
Les Gets has excellent beginners slopes directly in the village, accessible directly from our apartment for ski-ers with about 3 days experience!, and up on the Chavannes. It is an intermediates dream with 120kms of well groomed cruising runs, 53 lifts on the Les Gets/Morzine ski pass. Click here for the piste map and details of the ski-ing area
There are specialist snowboard schools as well as specialist instructors in the French Ski School
There is an English ski/ snowboard school. Click here to see details of their courses and book on line. If you book a course of lessons you can get a discount on private lessons. We can also recommend Tim Scott, independant snowsports instructor and guide. There are also a number of French schools.
We are pleased to be able to offer a ski hire delivery service. Book this service and they visit the apartment/ chalet when you arrive to fit your boots and then deliver skis adjusted for the boots. Save the hassle of queing in the ski hire shop, get the full attention of an expert and as they can visit in the evening so that you are ready to ski first thing the next day.
